Test live pages Pro
Form tests
Submit a form empty in a hidden frame, safely, and see whether its errors are shown, announced and linked to their fields.
Updated for Lumtera 1.2.2 and Lumtera Pro 1.1.1.
Overview
Form tests live in the Forms card on the Page checks screen, under Lumtera → Checks → Page checks. Every browser page check you run as yourself lists the forms it finds on the page: Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, the classic WooCommerce checkout and plain HTML forms. Each form shows the page it is on and how many required fields it has.
Only forms with at least one required field are tested, because an empty submission has to trigger errors. Press Test form and Lumtera turns on a safety guard for your login, loads the page again in a hidden frame, and submits the form with every field left empty. It never types into a field and leaves spam traps and captchas alone. It then watches the page for three seconds and turns the guard off again.
The guard is a short-lived token in an HttpOnly cookie, valid for two minutes, for you and your login session only. While it is on, each form plugin's own hooks stop any email, entry or order, even if the empty submission gets past the form's checks. Plain HTML forms are only tested when they post to the page itself or to WordPress's own form handlers, and they are never allowed to leave the frame. Forms that send to another address are listed with the reason and not tested.
Why does it matter?
A form can look fine and still fail people at the moment it matters: when they make a mistake. If the errors are not announced, not linked to their fields or shown only in red, screen reader and color-blind users cannot tell what went wrong. Nobody wants to test that by sending real messages or orders.
What do you get?
- Tests for Contact Form 7, WPForms, Gravity Forms, the classic WooCommerce checkout and plain HTML forms.
- Eight checks: errors announced, errors shown, fields marked invalid, messages linked, focus moved, labels kept, more than color, and specific messages.
- A dry-run guard on the server stops any email, form entry or order while a test runs, only for you.
- Forms that send to another address are listed but not tested, with the reason.
- Results feed the conformance report (ACR) and the evidence log.
How does it work?
-
Check a page with a form
Run a page check on your contact, sign-up or checkout page. Its forms appear in the Forms card.
-
Press Test form
Lumtera turns on the safety guard, submits the form with every field empty in a hidden frame and watches for three seconds.
-
Fix the form settings
Each finding says what to change, often an accessibility setting in the form plugin, and links to the WCAG criterion.
Who is it for?
-
Contact and quote forms
Check that the "please fill in this field" messages reach screen reader users and are linked to their fields, without sending a test message to your inbox.
-
WooCommerce stores
Test the classic checkout's error handling without creating an order, a customer or a payment.
-
Choosing or configuring a form plugin
Many fixes are accessibility settings in the form plugin. Test, change a setting, and test again to see the difference.
Good to know
How it behaves, what it needs, and where its limits are.
- Plans and access
- Included in every Pro plan. The Forms card and Test form need the same permission as the Lumtera reports, editors and administrators by default.
- The eight checks
- Errors not announced to screen readers (4.1.3), no error shown for empty required fields, fields not marked invalid, messages not linked to their fields, focus not moved to the first error (3.3.1), labels lost (3.3.2), errors shown by color alone (1.4.1), and messages that could say what to fix (3.3.3, a tip).
- When a form is not tested
- Forms with no required fields, forms that send to another address and the WooCommerce block checkout are listed with the reason. If the page fills in every required field itself, for example from your account details, the test stops and says so.
- Where results go
- Each form keeps its last result in the Forms card. Findings from forms on public pages count in the conformance report (ACR) with that page, and each test is recorded in the evidence log.
- On request only
- Tests run one form at a time, only when you press Test form. Scheduled checks never submit forms. Forms are found on desktop checks run as you, not in signed-in checks.

Questions
Something else on your mind? Contact support
Will a test send an email or create an order?
It is built not to. Fields are never filled in, and while the test runs a server guard stops emails, entries and orders for your login only. Plain HTML forms are never allowed to leave the frame.
What if a caching plugin serves the page?
If Lumtera cannot confirm the safety guard on the loaded page, it does not submit the form and tells you. Exclude the page from caching for logged-in users and try again.
Does passing mean my form is accessible?
No. It means these automated checks found no problems with the empty-form errors. Also test the form by hand with a keyboard and a screen reader, including other mistakes such as a badly typed email address.
How much does this add to coverage?
With form tests, automated checks cover 40 of 55 WCAG 2.2 A and AA criteria, fully or in part, and 44 with the consistency checks on the Growth plan and up. Covering a criterion means a check looks at it, not that your site meets it.
