Updated for Lumtera 1.3.0 and Lumtera Pro 1.2.0.

Why does it matter?

Success criterion 2.2.2 asks that anything blinking for more than five seconds can be paused, and 2.3.1 that nothing flashes more than three times a second. A CSS animation here keeps switching this element on and off. Lumtera cannot see whether the page offers a way to pause it.

Who it affects: Keyboard, screen reader and low-vision users — every visitor meets the page title, language, landmarks, keyboard focus, target sizes and zoom settings on every page.

What does Lumtera flag?

CSS animations that keep switching an element on and off for more than five seconds, or flash more than three times a second. For review: Lumtera cannot see whether the page offers a way to pause it.

Check ID page-animation-blink, as shown in review mode and saved results.

How do I fix it in WordPress?

Remove the animation, or stop it within five seconds, or add a visible pause button. Anything that flashes more than three times a second should go: it can cause seizures. Respecting prefers-reduced-motion helps, but does not replace a pause control.

Example

Flagged on the rendered page
.sale { animation: blink 1s infinite; }
Fixed
.sale { animation: blink 1s 3; }

How do I check the fix?

  1. Reload the page in review mode and run the Whole page tab again. The finding disappears once the rendered page passes.
  2. Load the page and press Tab: a "Skip to content" link should appear first, and you should always see where focus is, even under a sticky header. Pinch-zoom on a phone, and check the browser tab shows a meaningful title.
