Updated for Lumtera 1.3.0 and Lumtera Pro 1.2.0.

Why does it matter?

WCAG 1.1.1 asks for a text alternative for non-text content; this embedded object has no name, so screen readers cannot say what it is. Its fallback content only shows when it cannot load, and alt does nothing on an object.

Who it affects: Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, screen reader users whose speech is drowned out by audio, and people with vestibular or attention disorders affected by motion.

What does Lumtera flag?

An with no title or aria-label. Fallback content inside it does not count, and alt does nothing on an object.

Check ID object-no-name — use it to filter the content report or with wp lumtera issues --rule.

How do I fix it in WordPress?

Add a title or aria-label to the that says what it shows. Better still, use the Image, Audio, Video or File block, which handles this for you.

Example

Flagged

Fixed

How do I check the fix?

 1. Update the post. The issue disappears from the Lumtera Accessibility sidebar on the next check, and from the site report on the next scan.
 2. Play the page with the sound off, then with a screen reader on. Speech should be captioned, nothing should play sound by itself, and anything that moves should be stoppable.

Find this issue across your whole site

Lumtera runs this check in the block editor sidebar as you write, in the Elementor panel, in Review mode on the live page, and across the whole site in the content report and with wp lumtera scan. You can change its severity or turn it off in Lumtera → Settings.
