Image and text link go to the same page

Why it matters

Cards and post lists often link the image and the title separately to the same page. Keyboard users must press Tab twice for one destination, and screen readers list it twice.

Who it affects: Screen reader users who browse by a list of links, keyboard users, and people using voice control who say a link's words to click it.

Check ID link-adjacent-duplicate — use it to filter the content report or with wp lumtera issues --rule.

How to fix it in WordPress

Use one link instead of two: remove the link from the image (select it and use Unlink in the toolbar), or put the image and the text inside the same link. In a Query Loop, you can turn off "Link to post" on the Post Featured Image block and keep it on the Post Title.

How to check your fix

1. Update the post. The issue disappears from the Accessibility sidebar on the next check, and from the site report on the next scan.
2. Press Tab through the page. Every link and button should receive visible focus, and its text should make sense read on its own.
