Updated for Lumtera 1.2.2 and Lumtera Pro 1.1.1.
Why does it matter?
People with low vision, memory difficulties or who use a screen reader learn where menu items are and go straight to them. If the shop section's menu lists the same links in another order, they pick the wrong one.
Who it affects: Keyboard and screen reader users filling in forms, people with low vision who rely on clear hover and focus styles, people distracted or made unwell by motion, and anyone who finds their way around a site by its menus and help links.
What does Lumtera flag?
Part of Lumtera Pro's cross-page consistency (Growth plan and above), on the "Cross-page consistency" card of Lumtera → Checks → Test sessions. After each scheduled page check, or when you press "Compare pages again", Lumtera compares the pages checked (up to the 150 most recent): a repeated menu that lists the links it shares with other pages in a different order than most pages is for review, naming the pages that differ and the usual order. Needs at least two pages; pages checked as a signed-in role are left out. Finding no differences does not prove the site is consistent.
Check ID consistency-navigation, as shown in review mode and saved results.
How do I fix it in WordPress?
Use the same menu, with its links in the same order, on every page that repeats it. Menus built in the Site Editor or under Appearance → Menus are usually shared already; look for templates, page builder headers or landing pages that use a copy.
Example
Most pages: Home, Shop, About, Contact
Shop pages: Shop, Home, Contact, About
Every page: Home, Shop, About, Contact
How do I check the fix?
- Run the page check again from Lumtera Pro's Page checks screen. The finding disappears once the page passes.
- Submit the form with the required fields empty, using only the keyboard and then a screen reader: the errors should be announced, focus should move to them, and each message should say what to fix. Hover over and Tab to links and buttons to see that they stay readable, and compare the menus on a few pages.
